The preparation is completely voluntary! Practice is always good, of course, but the questions of our contest are adapted to school material.
Our free educational gaming app, The Big Challenge PLAY is available all year round free of charge and independent of the competition, so you can train for the competition or simply practice there in addition to your English lessons.

By the way, the "Quiz" game on the Big Challenge PLAY consists entirely of questions from  the last years of the competition.
